We Have a USDA-Accredited Veterinarian on Staff

Before you can take your animals anywhere within the United States or internationally, they need a veterinary health certificate. Ark Vet is here to help you with the paperwork for your animal’s travel.

A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) is an official document, completed by a USDA-accredited veterinarian, that the state your animal is traveling to requires for entry.

A CVI shows that your animal has been inspected and meets the entry requirements of the destination. It also shows that your animal is healthy and free of signs of disease or parasites.

Questions we hear about this.

What is a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI)?

A CVI is an official health certificate, completed and signed by a USDA-accredited veterinarian, showing that an animal has been inspected and meets the entry requirements of the state it’s traveling to. Each state sets its own entry requirements. Source: USDA APHIS.

Which certificates can Ark provide?

We provide USDA-APHIS, interstate, export and international health transport certificates.

How far ahead of travel should I book?

Contact us as soon as you know your travel date and destination. Many certificates are only valid for a limited time and some destinations require tests or vaccinations first, so early planning helps.

Does my horse need a Coggins test to travel?

Usually, yes. South Carolina requires horses and other equids 6 months of age or older to have a negative Coggins (EIA) test from within the previous 12 months when they are imported into the state, moving within the state to a public assembly, or at a public assembly, such as a show, a boarding stable or a pasture shared by horses from different owners. Every state requires proof of a negative Coggins test for horses crossing state lines. We offer Coggins testing as part of our preventative care. Can you prepare certificates for livestock on my farm?

Yes. Our ambulatory large-animal service makes farm calls across Sumter, Columbia, Florence, Lugoff and Camden. Tell us how many animals are traveling and where they’re going when you book.
